Join Us for The Center's Third Annual Loving Day Celebration
Loving Day is observed annually on June 12 to commemorate the landmark 1967 U.S. Supreme Court decision Loving v. Virginia, which struck down all state laws banning interracial marriage. This historic ruling not only affirmed the fundamental right to marry but also marked a defining victory for civil rights in America. Loving Day stands as a celebration of love, resilience, and equality, honoring the Lovings’ courageous stand for justice.
The International Center is proud to host its third annual Loving Day celebration, presented in partnership with Pacers Sports & Entertainment and former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard. Guests will enjoy compelling stories from interracial couples, insights from a legal scholar on the significance of the ruling, works from local artists, a catered lunch, and an opportunity to participate in vow renewals. We invite you to join us for this meaningful day of reflection, community, and celebration.
The International Center is proud to share that our board member, Shadreck Kamwendo, has been selected for the Mitch Daniels Leadership Fellowship (MDLF). This prestigious, two-year program brings together leaders from across Indiana who are committed to strengthening the state’s future through principled leadership and collaboration. As part of the fellowship, Shadreck will join a diverse cohort representing multiple industries and counties, engaging in expert-led sessions, case studies, and discussions focused on key issues such as the economy, education, health, and civil society.
Fellows will also complete a Capstone project designed to create real-world solutions that benefit communities across Indiana.
We congratulate Shadreck, Ephraim, and Sharla on this exciting achievement and look forward to the impact of their continued leadership.

Celebrating Community, Culture & Wellness
May marks Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the rich histories, diverse cultures, and significant contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across generations.
From art, cuisine, and traditions to leadership, innovation, and community building, AAPI communities have played a vital role in shaping our society. Asian Fest 2026 is the Asian American Alliance Inc. flagship annual celebration, bringing together thousands from across the community to experience the richness and diversity of Asian cultures. This month is also an opportunity to reflect on shared experiences, uplift underrepresented voices, and foster deeper understanding and connection across cultures.
Asian American Alliance's “Shining A Light” story will be featured on the AES building throughout May. This video is a beautiful ode to the Asian community, celebrating our heritage, resilience, and contributions, and includes a special message from Governor Braun and Mayor Hogsett. Be sure to catch this powerful tribute lighting up downtown.
